Rafflesia Vase
What comes to mind when you think of your roots?
For Danny, Co-Founder of Little Goodies, who was born and raised in Virginia in the 1990s to immigrant parents from El Salvador and Thailand, his roots have been an ongoing exploration.
Meet the Rafflesia vase by Oakland-based ceramicist Justin Kiene, part of a collection of ceramics exploring Danny’s roots and inspired by the flora grown in the native lands of Danny’s parents. This vase takes cues from the striking yellow and red colors of the Rafflesia flower, the largest flower in the world and one of the rarest flowers found in Thailand and Southeast Asia. Here are a few fun facts about the Rafflesia: it’s also a parasitic plant and smells like dead carcasses.
Justin’s otherworldly approach and attention to detail to ceramics are on full display with this vase, featuring bumpy dots and a yellow and red glossy finish.
Handmade by Justin in his Oakland studio, this one-of-a-kind goody is exclusively available at Little Goodies.
