The Manuela Napkin Set
Which women in film and television made a mark on you?
To Danny, Co-Founder of Little Goodies, it’s Manuela, the grieving, determined mother from the 1999 comedy-drama film, Todo Sobre Mi Madre (All About My Mother), written and directed by Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar, known for his captivating and melodramatic films.
Manuela, who witnesses her son’s tragic death on his seventeenth birthday, travels back to Barcelona in search of his birth father, sparking memories, reunions, and new friendships that blend the past and the present, changing her life forever as a woman, mother, and friend. To Danny, Manuela represents love, compassion, and the resilience of women, much like his own mother who also endured loss during the Salvadoran Civil War and immigrated to the US in the 1980s with hopes of a brighter future. These women exemplify how tragedy can lead to renewal and hope.
Meet The Manuela Napkin Set by MADRE, an ode to Manuela and motherhood. This napkin features a beautiful brown gingham pattern and a bright red trim reminiscent of the red used throughout the wardrobe and set design of the film.
The Manuela Napkin Set is part of Madres on Screen, an exclusive and one-of-a-kind collection of linen napkins in collaboration with MADRE, the Portland-based brand known for everyday home essentials. The collection features five limited-edition sets of four napkins with vibrant trims inspired by women on the big and small screen, each chosen by MADRE Co-Founders Shay and Jeanie and Little Goodies Co-Founders Danny and Phil.
Every napkin is made of 100% linen grown in Belgium and woven in a Lithuanian mill that runs on green energy. In addition, the fabric is Oeko-Tex certified and every piece is designed and sewn in Portland, Oregon.
