San Miguel Quilt
What travels and places have shaped you?
For Danny, Co-Founder of Little Goodies, El Salvador is one of those places. San Miguel, his mother’s birthplace and a city in eastern El Salvador, remains a sweet and distant memory from visiting as a kid. Like many kids of immigrants in the US, his mother fled the country at the height of the Salvadoran Civil War, making the brave journey to the US in the 1980s in search of a brighter, safer, and more promising future.
Meet this striking handmade quilt by Toronto-based artist Justin Yong honoring his mother's immigrant experience and inspired by San Miguel. Harnessing his ability to create incredibly unique, detailed, and colorful compositions, Justin designed this piece with memories and views of El Salvador in mind, from the brightly painted shops and homes to La Palma folk art and the 7,025-foot Chaparrastique Volcano bordering the city.
This quilt is a part of a six-piece one of one collection of quilts inspired by places from above and the travels that have shaped Little Goodies co-founder Danny Jestakom and multidisciplinary artist Justin Yong.
Make it an extra special gift, a standout piece on your bed, or hung up to admire on a wall.
