The Jeannie Napkin Set
Which women in film and television made a mark on you?
To Shay, Co-Founder of MADRE, it was Jeannie, the 2000-year-old genie in the 1960’s fantasy sitcom I Dream of Jeannie. Known for being loyal yet mischievous, Jeannie had magical powers that Tony, the man in her life begged to keep constrained, reflecting a more significant notion of women’s increasing restlessness at the time.
Shay admires how Jeannie’s character contributed to a new era of how women were portrayed on and off the screen. While Jeannie appeared innocent and submissive at times, her character represented something greater: a shift in gender roles and how they were changing amid the women’s rights movement.
Meet The Jeannie Napkin Set, an ode to Jeannie and her tenacity. This napkin features a brown gingham pattern and a pink trim reminiscent of the pink silk part of Jeannie’s signature outfit.
The Jeannie Napkin Set is part of Madres on Screen, an exclusive and one-of-a-kind collection of linen napkins in collaboration with MADRE, the Portland-based brand known for everyday home essentials. The collection features five limited-edition sets of four napkins with vibrant trims inspired by women on the big and small screen, each chosen by MADRE's Co-Founders Shay and Jeanie and Little Goodies Co-Founders Danny and Phil.
Every napkin is made of 100% linen grown in Belgium and woven in a Lithuanian mill that runs on green energy. In addition, the fabric is Oeko-Tex certified, and every piece is designed and sewn in Portland, Oregon.
